A study was done by a Taiwanese research team and they tested different teas to see whether or not they help reduce bad cholesterol. The 4 teas they tested were black, green, oolong and pu-erh. According to the article, “The study involved male rats who were feed a high-fructose diet for 12 weeks. The results showed that a fructose-rich diet significantly elevated cholesterol, insulin, and leptin concentrations, as compared with those in the control group.” Rats that were then fed a fructose/green tea diet for 12 weeks showed a reduction in serum triglycerides, cholesterol, insulin and leptin levels. The research team concluded that these findings suggest that the intake of green can help reduce high levels of cholesterol.
