On August 16 and 17, the Aiya team visited our own backyard! No, not the parking lot, but the Los Angeles International Tea Festival! It was our third year in a row participating as a Gold Sponsor. The festival was held at its usual location, the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in the Little Tokyo area of Downtown Los Angeles.  However, this year was a little different because the event was held during Nisei Week, an annual festival celebrating Japanese-American culture.

The great thing about this show is that it is open to the public with a small entrance fee. It is geared towards regular consumers and gives them a chance to try different types of teas. Also, it gives us a chance to interact with our community, which we always enjoy. The show has always been a busy one, but it was even more so than usual this year due to Nisei Week. Within JANM and the pedestrian walkway, there was an estimated crowd of about 2,600 visitors over the two days we were there.

We sampled our Matcha To Go, Ceremonial Matcha, and iced Matcha green tea lattes using our Matcha Zen Café Blend. The samples were extremely popular, and it was tough keeping up with the demand. We powered through it though by simply drinking our Matcha!

In addition to the many booths, there were also educational classes about tea. Aiya team member, Michael, led a presentation on the basics of Matcha. He talked about what Matcha is and the key points that differentiate it from other green teas. Many of the class attendees had heard of Matcha, but didn’t really know what made it so special. Overall, the class was very informative and we were able to spread the knowledge of Matcha!

Lately, we’ve been saying that Matcha is on the rise, but it was truly evident at the show. Many tea companies that previously did not have any association with Matcha were showcasing products that included the tea; some were even selling the Matcha! In a year’s time, it will be interesting how many more companies will be incorporating Matcha into their lineup. We hope everyone we met had a great time, and hope to see you all next year!
